Swedish and Deep Tissue Massage

Swedish and deep tissue massage use the same motions, but differ in pressure and duration of stroke.

Swedish massage is a gentler technique that uses palms and fingers to manipulate the tissue, whereas elbows and fists may be used to apply more pressure during a deep tissue massage.

Deep tissue massage targets inner layers of muscle and is used to address chronic muscle and tendon issues as well as sports related injuries. Swedish massage targets the superficial layers of muscle and is used to promote relaxation and reduce muscle tension caused by everyday activities such as sitting at a computer.

Myofascial Release

Fascia is the layer of connective tissue between your skin and your muscles. If any of those layers become adhered to another (usually due to lack of movement or dehydration), a person will experience tightness or pain, and not necessarily in the location where the actual problem lies.

Myofascial release involves long, gentle holds and stretches that bring fluid back into areas of adhesion, allowing each layer (skin, fascia, muscle) to slide and move independently of one another, and thus reducing or eliminating pain or restriction.
